Walls of Jerusalem Guided Trek | Walking Tour | Tasmania Holiday

The Walls of Jerusalem Experience

Discover a mountain landscape only accessible by foot and carved by glaciers on our exclusive walk in Tasmania's only true alpine National Park. On this walk, we use a comfortable base camp near the entrance to the Walls of Jerusalem peaks, allowing for delightful day walks with light packs into the heart of this spectacular mountain region. On the first day you will make the short hike up to the base camp, where you can leave your main packs for two days of exploration inside the 'Walls'. You'll have the chance to climb King David's Peak and Mt Jerusalem, from where views stretch across much of Tasmania, or venture to remote outer regions such as Golden Gate or Zion Vale. Each day, you return to the base camp, which is situated near a cluster of alpine tarns known as Solomons Jewels. Tents are pitched on wooden platforms, and your guides will prepare gourmet camp meals served with a wilderness view. Utilising the base camps, this trip is an ideal introduction to remote wilderness walking, providing a simple and rewarding camping experience.

Brief Itinerary

  • DAY 1 Transfer from Launceston to the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, trek to our base camp
  • DAY 2 Day walks including the summit of Mount Jerusalem
  • DAY 3 Day walks to Golden Gate and Zion Vale
  • DAY 4 Descend from the Walls & return to Launceston.

Once up there, the scenery was spectacular and the walks chosen were a great mixture of challenge, relative ease and relative remote experience.

All the day walks were very good, but climbing Solomons Throne was special because it is so different. Very pleasant trip, Ashe and Simon complemented each other and were great, the group was small and very easy to be with. I think it is about right. The itinerary is good and the camp site is very comfortable. All in all a very pleasant, well organised trip.

The trip was great. I was expecting a bit more of a solid itinerary for hiking paths rather than choosing a new plan each day. It however worked out great and I was able to see all I wanted. Thank you!

Highlights of the trip: Being in wilderness, feeling like being on a new planet with all the different plants, animals, birds.
Having excellent guides that can tell us about each of those.

I loved my trip. the guides were both very helpful from the first day what we needed to have, sorting and packing our packs through to the last day enjoying our ride back into Launceston and resorting our gear. I was not expecting to be camping in the snow, so it was a bonus for me. Every day our guides told us what to expect and involved us on decisions of where we would walk the next day. When the weather turned bad they gave us the option to leave or stay and provided us with information in order to make informed decisions. I would definitely travel with them again, i felt safe and knew I was in capable hands while camping in the snowy mountains.

I went on the April 2013 Walls four day trek. Absolutely fantastic. My first trek, had no idea what to expect. The giudes were experienced and knowledgeable. Equipment was first class and up to the task. Food was good. No issues. I will trek with Tas Ex again. The whole Walls area has so much history attached to it and the scenery is stunning. This is me on top of Mt Jerusalem. The whole area is like this. Rating *****

I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful experience our 'Walls of Jerusalem' walk was. Our guides, Jake and Simon were not only thoroughly professional in their attention to every detail of the trip, they were also extremely knowledgeable about the history, geology, flora, fauna and the joys of exploring such beautiful places.

I'm back from the Walls of Jerusalem walk it was hard but fantastic! Scenery spectacular and the wilderness beautiful.

Just wanted to let you know that our guides Brenton and Nikita were fantastic. Brenton went out of his way to make the trip interesting and his cooking skills produced some really yummy meals. Nikita was always very encouraging and helpful. I really enjoyed their company and having them as our guides they made the trip really special. Go Solomons Crack!!

Oh yes nearly forgot - Scott the driver was a delight and the lunch at the end of the trip was
a great way to finish.

My brother and I decided to join the four day “Walls of Jerusalem Experience” during our 18 day visit to the east coast of Australia back in April of 2011.

We looked on ine searching various outfitters and decided to go with TazEx because the level of challenge seemed decent, in a short amount of time and since we were coming in from the states we needed to go with an outfitter that would supply the all the gear.

Top four thumbs up from our trip:

---The pristine wilderness.
Both my brother and I felt we were able to see a very special corner of the word that may not have been as easily accessed without the trek.
---The guides.
Knowledgeable about all the plants and animals we saw and heard, they were funny, and great cooks(a crazy delicious custard apple dessert one evening). Both men helped us out in any way possible. They went well above and beyond: lending gloves when mine weren’t warm enough, going on extra hikes in the evening before dinner, driving us out to Cataract Gorge in Launceston so we could hike around pre trek, helping us set up and take down the tents. Wes and Erik helped to make our trip unforgettable.
---The ease of booking.
All e-mail responses were prompt and accurate.
---Good Gear.
We were able to experience all sorts of weather and the gear held up aka no leaks in tent or rain wear and warm sleeping bags.

If you like being outdoors and want to get off the beaten path try one of their trips.

If I am ever in the area I will go on another tazex trek

The four-day Walls of Jerusalem Experience is run by a company called Tasmanian Expeditions. It is simultaneously one of the best and least-known walking trips in Tasmania. From a base camp at the splendidly named Wild Dog Creek in the bosom of the national park, it provides modestly challenging day walks followed by proper dinners beneath nights boiling with stars, perhaps a glass or two of Tasmanian wine, then snug nights cocooned in goosedown. It is "adventure lite", wilderness without the wild: no heavy rucksacks, no packet pasta, no cold nights.
