Franklin River Rafting Tour | White Water Rafting Tasmania

Franklin River Rafting

For many people, Tasmania's famous Franklin River is synonymous with wilderness conservation. The Franklin is one of the world's last great wild rivers and it forges through the rugged south west of Tasmania, through deep gorges, quiet pools and magnificent temperate rainforest. This expedition provides a true wilderness adventure, an experience we pioneered back in 1978. Regardless of the river level, you will be in good hands as our professional guides have an exceptional safety record. Despite the remoteness, our guides will ensure that the preparation of delicious meals will exceed all expectations. Any descent of the Franklin is demanding and while previous rafting experience is not required, some wilderness knowledge, along with a sound level of fitness, is essential. Our trip was named the best river journey in the world by Outside Magazine in 2012. Join on us on this real wilderness experience of a lifetime.

Tasmanian Expeditions' Franklin River Rafting trip was absolutely wonderful. Exceptionally experienced and personable guides, quality equipment, plentiful tasty food, and well-paced, allowing time to relax and take in the extraordinary natural beauty and peace of the Franklin and Gordon Rivers. With fine weather, we were able to sleep under the stars in peace and harmony and truly feel at one with nature. After 9 days of drinking and swimming in the tea tree steeped Franklin, not only did my hair and skin feel wonderfully soft, but my soul felt steeped in serenity... and I was sooo relaxed!

I have just completed 'the franklin' with Victor Traill and I just want to tell someone in your company what a remarkable young man he is. He create a feeling of safety through his constant professional approach, he treated each guest with direct interest AND created amazing heart warming meals after a day of hard work !!! All this he managed despite a broken finger!!!!!! His loving respect for the river & his knowledge of all things connected to it made this 'the time of my life '
Many thanks to all who make this possible.

Usually i prefer to plan my own trips with friends, and make up an itinerary. However, sometimes it makes sense to go with a group. I have been on 5 trips with Tasmanian Expeditions and enjoyed everyone. The staff are very professional, knowledgable and friendly and i have meet some really interesting fellow travellers.

The expertise and professionalism of the 3 guides Oscar, Jordie & Yak was brilliant. They were attentive, organised & fun. The food was better than any trek journey we have participated in. Well done. We will consider other world ex trips abroad..

The weather was fantastic and the multi day rafting on the Franklin River was not to be missed. What made the trip excellent was the guides (Oscar, Jordie and Yak) who not only had experience with the river, but treated us like a big family. The food was second to none.

I understand that Tasmania Expeditions has been doing this trip since the early days. The planning for the trip reflects that experience.

I will be remembering this trip for a long time.

Just a quick note to say a big thanks to Tasmania Expeditions for a great trip. The guides were skilled and knowledgeable as well as fun to be around. The food has set a new standard for tours I've been on. I'm definitely recommending your company to anybody who asks.

With plenty or rain to swell the river and make rafting easier and more fun (bigger rapids and less portage) combined with excellent weather for our trip, it would have been hard not to have had a good time. However the 2 wonderful guides worked tirelessly to give us a fantastic holiday. They were knowledgeable about flora, fauna, geology and history of the area, They were almost too good at rafting - even during the most challenging parts of the river I never felt remotely unsafe with them at the helm! Add to that that they were excellent cooks and very kind considerate people. I would not do this holiday again as I very much doubt it could live up to the experience I had this time! Magnificent

This was a trip of a lifetime. Everything was magical, from being able to drink the water to visiting the lost world. We ate like kings, laughed, and enjoyed the peace that only an escape like this can provide. The guides made the trip, their knowledge of the river and history of the area along with their expertise on all of the practical things along the river made this a renewing experience. I feel as though I came back a happier more fulfilled person. I am so grateful.

The Franklin River trip was probably the best trip I have done since being Editor of OUTDOOR - I would do it all again tomorrow!

I just want to say thank you to you all: the Franklin trip totally surpassed any expectation I might have had.

Clearly, that environment "sells itself" , but I believe the quality of the guides added hugely to my enjoyment of that amazing experience.

At all times I felt safe, included and enjoyed the easy-going approach on the trip. The food was incredible in those circumstances (especially having fresh - unbroken - eggs on about day 5!!)

Thanks again, Peter

I just wanted to write to say what an amazing trip I have just had down the Franklin with Elias and Franzi Eichler. They would have to be the best guides on the river. So safe, professional and the best cooks. We had a blast! You have exceptional people working for you. I also wanted to ask if there are any t-shirts for sale through world expeditions or Tasmanian Expeditions with a Franklin River theme.

"World Expeditions don't only provide a trip of a lifetime down the world's premier white water rafting river, they take you safely, surely and with great respect for the environment. They have been on the river for more than thirty years. No two trips on the Franklin River, with its side canyons, waterfalls, sea eagles, platypuses and ancient Huon Pines, are the same. Don't forget your camera!"

Dr. Bob Brown Tasmania, Australia

And now for a happy conservation story: The Franklin Riverís ecosystem environment is one of the most pristine on earth thanks to hawk-like activism and conservation efforts by Tasmanian Expeditions, the company that pioneered the first commercial descent back in 1978. (Incidentally, for Everest historians, Lincoln Hall was on that first trip.) Since then, the company has led efforts to prevent a dam in 1983, continues to remove noxious weed infestations along the banks, and manages the nearly invisible, leave-no-trace campsites.

This nine-day trip that passes canyon gorges, cascading waterfalls, and floats mellow pools is a total commitmentóonce you start, the only way out is to keep rafting, best November through January.

I was particularly impressed by the level of knowledge and professionalism exhibited by the river guides, Shaun and Anna. Whether it be tackling a difficult rapid, describing the fauna, flora and history of the area, preparing the campsite, producing amazing meals or subtly directing and supporting me in potentially dangerous situations, I always felt completely safe and comfortable.
